Election results: Familiar faces re-elected

ACES welcomes familiar faces back to the 2019 Board of Directors.

Both ACES: The Society for Editing Board of Directors incumbents were re-elected to their positions. Neil Holdway, secretary, and Nick Jungman, treasurer, will continue in their roles.

Neil Holdway is assistant managing editor at the Daily Herald (suburban Chicago), where he is the lead editor at night overseeing the front page as well as the web home page, while also overseeing nine multiplatform editors. Neil has been on the ACES board since 2005 and has held multiple positions including treasurer and secretary.

Nick Jungman is director of student media at the University of Oklahoma where he manages the student newspaper, yearbook, and other publications in addition to teaching news editing. Nick joined the Board of Directors in 2015 and was elected treasurer in 2018.

The three incumbent at-large ACES board members, Mark Allen, Maisha Maurant, and Heather Saunders, were re-elected to their seats as well.

Mark Allen is an independent editor, owner of Mark Allen Editorial LLC, and an instructor at UC San Diego Extension. Mark was the first freelancer elected, in 2012, and initiated the freelance editor directory, among numerous other contributions.

Maisha Maurant is chief corporate editor at Health Alliance Plan, where she leads a team of strategists, writers, editors, and graphic designers. She also manages internal communications and supports marketing and operational communications. Maisha has been on the ACES board for two years and currently leads the board’s new diversity and inclusion task force.

Heather Saunders is owner of Just the Write Type, where she is a proofreader and STEM/medical editor. In addition to being on the board, Heather is also on the ACES 2019 Conference Committee and chairs the ACES Communications Committee.

All board members, including those just re-elected, are thrilled to embark on another productive, innovative, and insightful year of growth and improvement for ACES.
