Now is the Time to Vote for the Board of Directors

Are you an ACES member in good standing? 

Vote today for the candidates of your choice for the 2024 Board of Directors. 

Full, corporate associate, and student members who are current in their dues are eligible to vote. 

ACES thrives by virtue of the voluntary efforts of its members, which number over 5,000. That includes Board members, committee members, conference volunteers — and you. 

What does the Board do?

The ACES Board of Directors is made up of ACES members who are willing to spend a few hours a week in service to the organization.

• The ACES Board of Directors sets the goals and strategies for the organization.  
• Board members attend the national in-person and virtual conferences.
• The Board meets in-person twice a year, at the national conference in the spring and for a mid-term meeting in the fall.
• Board officers provide additional support and guidance.

What is are some recent examples? 

Over the last couple of years the ACES Board has established a series of committees that tackle specific topics by creating initiatives and working closely with staff to make them happen. The committees are central to the Board's 2022-2024 strategic plan. 

Among recent committee accomplishments: 

• The return of in-person training with the Ask the Editing Experts Roundtable on April 3 in San Diego.
• The launching of two new ACES newsletters.
• The forthcoming ACES Guide for New Editors — look for it on Feb. 23. 
• Creating an initiative to pay presenters $200 per webcast. 

In addition to these contributions, committees provide a path toward increasing ACES leadership — several committee members have won election to the Board. 

What else does the Board do?

• It supports the ACES Education Fund in its work providing scholarships to emerging editors. 
• The Board supports the fall virtual conference, which it established. 
• And most importantly, it supports ACES' flagship event, the annual in-person conferences, this year in San Diego. 

What positions are on the 2024 ballot?

• Two officer positions are open: President-elect and Vice President for Governance (new). The candidates are running unopposed. 
• Eight members are running for four at-large seats on the ACES Board of Directors.

The ballot closes at midnight on February 26, 2024. Election results will be announced on March 4, 2024.
