The only thing that slows me down from devouring one book after another is the tendency to see every error as I read -- from grammar to style consistency to the bottom line message. I like what I read to be right, and it is not because I'm a control freak and I know everything (although I probably am and I like to think I do, which is what you want in a copy editor). I want to be sure I'm receiving the message loud and clear. Without the rules of grammar, the writer's intended message is at risk. Miscommunication is bad for your business.
