Erin Servais

Candidate - Board of Directors

Self-Nominated

Erin Servais is a book editor, author coach, and educator. She is the founder of Dot and Dash, a boutique company helping women tell their stories, and the Editors Tea Club, an online space where editors come together for friendship, education, and support. In her fifteen years as an editor, she has helped to bring hundreds of titles to print. She has also presented about editing and entrepreneurship for ACES: The Society for Editing, the Professional Editors Network, Editors Canada, and others. Erin lives in Minnesota with her hockey-playing husband, nineteen-year-old cat, odd-shaped dog, and gaggle of weird plants.

How long has the nominee been a member of ACES?

Seven consecutive years since 2016 (and some nonconsecutive years before this)

How has the nominee contributed to ACES?

I presented one conference session and two ACES Academy webcasts, wrote multiple articles for Tracking Changes, and was an ACES Twitter chat guest. In one year alone, I tracked 75 volunteer hours preparing education materials for ACES. I am also presenting at the upcoming conference in March.

What experience would the nominee bring to the board?

I founded and lead:

1) The Writing Accountability Group: established four years ago, now with 1,250 registered members

2) The Editors Tea Club: a networking and education group established less than two years ago that gained over 200 members via word of mouth and has a team of eight coordinators.

If elected, what does the nominee envision for ACES during their tenure?

Improving resources, events, and volunteer experiences:

1) Hosting more live, online networking events and discussions

2) Converting member newsletter to a public blog: volunteer writers can cross-promote, content is easier to find, and it attracts potential members

3) Providing honorariums to presenters

4) Creating educational ebooks and guides for members.
