How has the nominee contributed to ACES?

Have done a Q&A for an ACES chat, promoted ACES social accounts and announcements, this question makes me realize I need to do a lot more. :-\

What experience would the nominee bring to the board?

Editing is a difficult task for trained editors these days. With the changing landscape of online writing and self-publishing, we are often asked to straddle a frustrating line between following the "rules" and throwing them out the window to "honor" a writer's voice. As someone who has worked in this space (as both a writer AND an editor) for over a decade, I've learned the systems to create and conversations to have to get the best writing possible from a writer - while adapting to their personal style and the nature of their industry.

If elected, what does the nominee envision for ACES during their tenure?

Training and content for editors on creating relationships with their clients. The idea of an editor who crashes in to thrash a piece of writing is an outdated archetype that doesn't exist as much in modern publishing. An editor is instead charged with being an advocate for and partner of a writer in their process.Additionally, as editors, our time is coming! With the growth of AI writing software in 2023, and more brands and writers trying it out, the need for human editors to provide suggestions and guidance will be a prominent focus.
