This Is Not Your Parents’ Conference App
By ACES Staff
Are you a government editor? Do you edit fiction? Are you a newspaper copy editor? Do you have a freelance business? Do you live in Atlanta? Tampa? Los Angeles? British Columbia? Do you love word games? Knitting? Your cat?
Whoever you are, whatever you’re interested in, when you go to an ACES conference, virtual or in-person, you can easily find your people through Whova, the conference app that ACES uses.
Whova isn’t just for scheduling sessions and learning about the speakers, exhibits, and sponsors — although it makes it easy to do those things.
It also supports your work as an editor through networking and community building.
The Whova app is simple to use at in-person and virtual conferences alike. You can:
- Navigate the agenda and logistics without using Wi-Fi or data.
- Download to a laptop or device.
- Sync your content across platforms.
If you’re attending a VCON, you might want to view it on your desktop. When you go to an in-person conference, put it on your mobile device and have it at your fingertips throughout the conference. View the agenda and:
- Search by day, date, time, presenter, topic, skill level.
- Create your personal session agenda to help keep you organized.
- Post questions before a session.
- Message the presenters and read their bios.
Be sure to head over to the Community Board — that’s where the networking action happens. Introduce yourself and meet your edibuddies through the icebreaker. Check out the topics and add your own. You’re likely to find:
- meet-ups of all kinds
- job openings
- favorite editing tools
- at least one #stetpets and probably more.
Other popular topics have included editing software, desk setup, generative AI, new editors, work/life balance, and introverts. By the end of the conference there will be dozens.
Take a look at what the exhibitors are offering and be sure to say thank you to them and our generous exhibitors and sponsors. Watch for contests, live polls, and photos. You’ll have the opportunity to win ACES merch, an ACESÂ membership or renewal, and even a conference registration.
If this sound like an ad for Whova, it’s because we’re so excited about using it at our conferences. Whova is made available to all conference goers — attendees, presenters, sponsors, and exhibitors — a week or two before the event starts.
