ACES Board elections
Learn how Board elections work, who can participate, and what it takes to get involved.
How the election works
Board elections follow a set annual process with three main stages:
Nominations
Members can nominate themselves or others during a defined window each spring.
Voting
Eligible members vote on candidates through an electronic ballot.
Transition
New Board members are onboarded and begin their terms in July.

Who can participate
Different roles in the election have different requirements.
Nominate
All ACES members in good standing, including full, associate, and student members, can submit a nomination.
Run
To run for the Board, you must:
- Be a full ACES member in good standing for at least one year.
- Have at least three years of experience in editing.
- Have been actively involved in ACES.
Vote
Full and student members in good standing can vote.
Associate members cannot vote.
What serving on the Board involves
Board members help guide ACES's direction and priorities.
This includes:
- Contributing a few hours each week.
- Attending monthly meetings.
- Participating in in-person meetings during the year.
- Attending the annual conference.
Serving on the Board is an active leadership role within the organization.
About the Board
The ACES Board of Directors is made up of officers, at-large members, and the president of the ACES Education Fund.
