Introducing the ACES Spotlight Series

The latest training opportunity from ACES is the ACES Spotlight Series, a recurring virtual educational series focusing on topics that are trending in the editing community.
Each Spotlight Series features three sessions centered on a common topic. Each session will last two hours and feature a group of experts who each deliver a 15-minute talk focusing on their area of expertise. The individual talks are followed by a moderated Q&A from the online participants.
This is a great opportunity for new and experienced editors to hear from industry experts and absorb their wisdom and knowledge.
“We knew we were bringing together a group of experts,” said Crystal Shelley, chair of the ACES Training Committee and Board member At-Large. “We asked, ‘What are editors talking about? What challenges are we facing? What would help us do our jobs?’ We wanted to have this new training focus on a trending topic — to shine a spotlight on what’s affecting the editing community right now.”
Up first: The ACES Spotlight Series on AI
Considering the reach of AI across industries and communities, it may not be surprising that AI is the focus of the first ACES Spotlight Series.
“AI is an obvious selection,” said Rumit Pancholi, the Online Training Subcommittee chair and an ACES Board member At-Large. “It’s a huge topic of discussion worldwide and it has profound implications for editors and the future of our industry.”
Each of the three sessions delves into pertinent aspects of this topic.
The first session, “Legal and Ethical Implications of AI in Editing,” will be held on May 20, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. ET, on Zoom.
The second session will focus on the practical aspects of using AI in editing and is tentatively scheduled for August 2025. The third session, about job protection for editors in the AI era, is tentatively scheduled for January 2026. Stay tuned for details.
The cost of each session is $49 for members and $79 for nonmembers.
Registration is now open for Session #1. Subsequent sessions will go on sale as details are confirmed.

Complementary, not sequential
Each session is unique and stands alone but can also be seen as complementary to the entire series.
The recordings will not be available in perpetuity. We recognize that the editing landscape is always changing, so to keep the content of each Spotlight Series relevant and fresh, all sessions in that series will be open for 60 days after the third session airs. That’s still plenty of time to go back and catch what you missed before we move on to the next series featuring a brand-new topic.
