The position manages and supports key business functions under the direction of the Research Center Manager, and is responsible for work of unusual difficulty while contributing to the quality control for research project deliverables. Project deliverables are of highly technical content on a broad range of scientific/engineering topics in the transportation field. While managing technical services supplied by contract editors and writers, the position establishes standardized guidance and manages consultant contracts and performance to ensure that editors and writers fulfill ADOT objectives and meet Research Center standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
-Edit complex research project deliverables for final reporting. Analyze technical material, identifying and providing clarity to - unclear or misleading language, confusing organization, and gaps in logic
-Develop clear direction for deliverable revisions to be made by staff and research consultants
-Establish on-call consultant contracts for technical editors and writers
-Manage contracts with editors and writers, to include generating detailed scopes of work, reviewing proposals, selecting technical editing and writing consultants, monitoring and directing their performance, and evaluating their work products for research projects
-Apply project management tools and principles to maintain quality and timeliness
-Develop and manage key business processes for research documentation, to include communications standards for research deliverables and processes for compliance with federal mandates for electronic accessibility of research documents
-Establish, monitor, and direct how communication and accessibility standards are applied and interpreted by research project consultants and contract technical editors and technical writers
-Fulfill federally mandated assignments: Document updates to research databases, edit the Research Center operations manual, manage updates to the SPR-B Work Program, electronically distribute final research reports, maintain current knowledge of federal research documentation requirements (including distribution and accessibility).
