Night editor – New Britain Herald and Bristol Press

The night editor is responsible for editing and production work for the combined daily print edition of the Herald and Press and overseeing the websites during the evening hours. The job is located in New Britain, Conn.

Responsibilities: Supervise production of the print edition, including one or two copy editors a night. Continually update and freshen the website. Post stories to the web, promote stories on social media accounts, push breaking news online. Work with reporters on breaking news. Coordinate with assignment editors on deadlines, story play and online plan for the night. Oversee front page, including headlines, editing of cover stories and design.

Skills: Excellent copy editing, design, headline writing skills. Strong news judgment, clear communicator. Must be fluent in online editing, with an understanding of how to make the most of the Web. Five years of experience is strongly preferred.
