The Medical Education Division of the American College of Physicians (ACP) is seeking candidates for the position of Medical Editor for the Assessment and Education Programs (AEP) department. ACP, a national organization of internal medicine physicians with headquarters in Philadelphia, is the largest medical specialty organization and the second-largest physician group in the United States with more than 160,000 members worldwide.
The Medical Editor is responsible for the management of assigned Assessment and Education Programs (AEP) products from planning through production. This includes substantive/developmental editing of selected Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program (MKSAP) clinical material in the content areas of internal medicine, including syllabus, multiple-choice questions (MCQs), tables, figures, updates, and digital enhancements; the Internal Medicine In-Training Examination (IM-ITE); and other Medical Education Division programs as assigned.
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Editing all content in a digital environment while adhering to the AEP style guide and standardized grammatical, punctuation, spelling, and usage rules.
-Working with authoring committees to develop content according to needs assessment data and ACP guidelines; ensuring assignments are completed according to program specifications and on time.
-Representing ACP and AEP at committee meetings and conducting tutorials on the development and evaluation of MCQs
-Understanding all facets of production, from file conversion through electronic production.
-Collaborating with production staff and creative services on the production of graphics
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience in a medical editing environment, with the ability to substantively edit medical content and address issues of organization, clarity, and appropriateness for the audience. We are looking for someone with demonstrated knowledge of electronic and print production, and familiarity with how to edit in e-learning digital platforms. Knowledge of test development principles in self-assessment and continuing medical education is desirable.
