The Managing Editor (ME) works as part of a small and nimble team and collaborates with Winterthur colleagues, the University of Chicago Press, and the editorial board of Winterthur Portfolio (WP) to set and implement goals for the journal. With the Executive Editor, the ME has significant responsibility for soliciting submissions. The ME has primary responsibility for overseeing the processing of article and review manuscripts submitted to WP as well as for editing articles for substance, grammar, and consistency (combination of content and copy editing) and providing editorial oversight as needed on reviews edited by the Book and Media Review Editor. The ME evaluates and manipulates images for publication according to image supplier and publisher specifications.
The Managing Editor is responsible for managing WP staff time/labor in partnership with the Executive Editor and Division Administrator. The individual in this role will manage the peer review process for articles and will oversee the Editorial Assistant’s implementation of asks, follow-ups, and successful receipt of reader reports. They will also advise and collaborate with guest editors, graduate/editorial assistants, interns, and volunteers. The ME will work with the Executive Editor and Division Administrator to manage the restricted contribution account funded by a revenue-sharing agreement with the University of Chicago Press that is used for reimbursing author costs for images and permissions.
Compensation: $50,000 - $55,000
