The Managing Editor, Research Editorial, manages RAND’s team of editorial professionals by establishing a strategic direction for the team; serving as the immediate supervisor of a subset of staff; leading the development of editorial and typesetting style, policy, and practice; and overseeing the development and maintenance of guidance, templates, intranet content, and other whole-of-RAND editorial resources. This role serves as a key point of contact for and collaborates with colleagues throughout RAND on the production, release, and promotion of research and derivative materials. Other responsibilities include managing profit and loss within the editorial cost center and advancing other strategic priorities as required.
Qualifications
Required
•Proven verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders
•Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills
•Demonstrated problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
•Excellent copyediting and writing skills, typesetting and proofreading experience
•Advanced knowledge of the publishing production arc
•Familiarity with style guides (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style) and a variety of scholarly citation formats
•Proven track record of managing multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
•Comprehensive knowledge of the Mac operating system, Microsoft Office (especially Word), and Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign)
•Three years of supervisory or equivalent leadership experience; direct supervisory experience is preferred
•Familiarity with U.S. government requirements for safeguarding national-security information
Preferred
•Professional experience in academic publishing
•Familiarity with Workfront
Education
BA in English or a related discipline is required. MA in English or a related discipline is preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 6 years of experience in a publishing or communications environment or related field.
Security Clearance
DHS Fitness and a U.S. security clearance are required-must be able to obtain and maintain both. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
