American Public Works Association (APWA) serves professionals in all aspects of public works by providing innovative education and credentialing opportunities for professional development. The Editor of the Reporter Magazine manages all editing, writing and production for the association’s monthly magazine, APWA Reporter including advertising, content, printing and production.
About Editor Role:
Manages all editing, writing, production, printing, mailing and advertising sales tasks related to the production of the APWA Reporter.
Maintains awareness of staff developments, member activities, competing publications, and industry trends with an eye toward material for the APWA Reporter.
Oversees and directs graphic design, page layout and production by coordinating design and production staff/outside service providers.
Oversees hiring, monitoring and support of outside advertising representatives with whom APWA contracts for the sale of advertising in the APWA Reporter and the annual Buyer’s Guide in the April issue.
Coordinates staff in bidding and negotiating with all vendors related to the publishing, production, and distribution of the APWA Reporter.
Fulfills Public Works Exposition (PWX) responsibilities, including hiring and overseeing photographer, covering the conference for the PWX highlights issue of the APWA Reporter, and assisting in other duties as needs arise. Travel to PWX site annually required.
Coordinates the creation of the media kit and other promotional mailings, internal ads to support the APWA Reporter’s editorial and advertising activities.
Monitors budgets related to applicable program areas following the association guidelines. Provides projections, estimates and notification when products and services have a substantial financial impact to their supervisor and Finance Director when appropriate.
What You Will Need to Succeed:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in journalism, English, Communications
Minimum of five years experience working in magazine production type environment which includes a positive progression of increasing responsibility.
