Editor Analyst I – State of Oregon Legislative Counsel

Description:

The Office of the Legislative Counsel provides nonpartisan legal and publication services to the Legislative Assembly and is responsible for drafting measures and providing research and legal services to the Legislative Assembly. Editorial staff in Publication Services edit and publish legislative measures, the Oregon Revised Statutes, Oregon Laws, Criminal Code of Oregon and other publications and legislative reference materials.

As Editor Analyst I, you will learn concepts of statutory construction and legislative drafting, principles of legal writing and legislative form and style. You will combine these with your know-how to read documents for logic and flow, to conduct research and to correct errors in grammar, syntax, punctuation and formatting. You will work as a team with other Editor Analysts and attorneys to ensure each document is ready for delivery.

You possess the flexibility to shift your attention from draft documents to prepress work and back again. You appreciate careful process documentation and can find your way through complex and intricate workflow processes. You seek mastery of the nuances of new style guides and love Merriam-Webster’s Unabridged. You back your editorial decisions with logic and knowledge. You communicate effectively, enjoy collaborating with others and can work with peers who apply a broad range of skills and approaches in problem-solving.

What You Will Do:

-Edit and analyze draft legislation, amendments and legal opinions
-Produce and perform technical checks on printed legislative measures and amendments
-Conduct research using legal research databases
-Organize, analyze and categorize new and revised laws
-Compile specialty and custom legal publications
-Collaborate with editorial, publication specialist and legal staff to complete projects

This is a hybrid (remote and in-office) position.
