Reporting to the Head of Imaging, Intellectual Property, and Publications, the Copyeditor is responsible for the editing and proofreading of all programmatic text produced for publication in any form and other Museum materials as needed. The Copyeditor edits publication projects that originate in the Art and Program division and those that involve the contributions of authors contractually bound to write for the museum. All activities of the Copyeditor are guided by the mission of the Walters Art Museum.
Minimum requirement: BA. Area of Concentration Humanities, Art History or History preferred
2+ years of experience as a Copyeditor required.
Demonstrated experience and success working with a variety of non-fiction texts related to the visual arts required.
Copyediting certificate preferred.
Awareness of current best practices in the field of art catalog production.
Knowledge of standard practices related to peer-review processes.
Familiarity with print and digital publication practices.
Basic knowledge of the history of art preferred.
Highly developed copyediting and proofreading skills.
Strong organization and time management skills.
Must be a team player, self-motivated, attentive to detail, able to prioritize and manage multiple projects and work independently.
Must be able to communicate effectively and work well with individuals at all levels internally and externally.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Google Docs
