The Modern Language Association, a nonprofit publisher of works on the study of language and literature, seeks a copyeditor to work full-time in its New York office. The position largely entails copyediting manuscripts on-screen for the association’s journal, book, and online publications.
This is not an entry-level editorial position; applicants should have a minimum of five years’ experience in copyediting scholarly or reference publications. Preference will be given to candidates with significant experience copyediting for a university press, scholarly society, or major publisher. Knowledge of style and usage guides, especially The Chicago Manual of Style, is essential, as is the ability to edit effectively in Microsoft Word. A bachelor's degree, preferably in a field of language or literature, is required.
The MLA is an equal opportunity employer.
