The role of Copy Editor functions to ensure all print and online materials meet high standards of accuracy and quality, fact-checked as needed and reflect the voice of respective publications while adhering to style guidelines. Key skills needed include attention to detail and the ability to quickly adapt and multitask to meet deadlines.
Copy edit electronic and print projects, including MS Word, PDFs, PowerPoint and InCopy, hardcopy, video transcripts, e-book, webpages, and creative collateral to ensure accuracy.
Proofread and correct electronic files, page proofs and final artworks to ensure all materials are error free, including grammar, spelling and style.
Check grammar, spelling, punctuation, identify inconsistencies and offer suggestions to fix awkward or unclear language in body copy, and improve headlines/display type.
Check and apply proofing and design changes to documents and layouts using InCopy.
Maintains strict adherence to deadlines.
Ensures all corporate, product branding, legal and Pharmaceutical Promotion Compliance guidelines are explicitly followed.
Knowledge and experience with AMA Manual of Style, Associated Press Stylebook
At least 3 years of editing/fact-checking experience, preferably in medical/scientific publishing
Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and assignments with tight deadlines
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InCopy, and content management systems
