The Atlantic is seeking an experienced full-time copy editor for TheAtlantic.com. This person will copy edit articles ranging from several hundred to several thousand words, at various stages in the editing process, and will also copy edit social-media posts, videos, and other content. This person will also have some fact-checking responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have a sharp eye for detail, a fine ear for language, and an exceptional grasp of grammar, accepted usage, punctuation, spelling, and verbal logic. Additionally, candidates should be able to prioritize when juggling multiple assignments, and adhere to high standards under tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will combine obsessiveness with collegiality and a sense of humor.
Candidates should have at least three years of copy-editing experience, preferably in magazine publishing, and preferably using the Chicago Manual of Style.
Candidates should have knowledge of and experience with basic fact-checking.
Candidates should take a flexible approach to a wide variety of writing styles.
