Associate Managing Editor for Newsroom Production – The Villages Daily Sun

Location:

The Villages, Florida

Description:

The Villages Daily Sun, Florida's largest daily print newspaper, is seeking a seasoned journalist to oversee the nightside copy editing and page flow operation.

The Daily Sun is a community-first newsroom, not a digital-first newsroom. This means that we place high value on content that is still reported, edited and designed within our local market, for a rapidly expanding print product. This is a rare opportunity to focus on journalistic quality without the distraction of a digital workflow.

Essential duties include supervision of a team of copy editors and prepress technicians; making gatekeeping calls on our community news report; overseeing the wire report and directing all newsroom operations after hours.

Were looking for a player-coach with three years’ experience directing newsgathering or editing activities under the pressures of daily deadlines. A bachelor’s degree is preferred, and proficiency in InDesign is a plus.

Our newspaper is part of a media group that also produces a daily TV news show, operates an FM radio station and publishes a monthly magazine and portfolio of niche special products to which our newsroom staff also contributes.

We're about a 90-mile drive to the beach, the theme parks and the historic neighborhoods of Gainesville and St. Augustine. Our employees also have access to a highly regarded workplace charter school system in one of the state's most idyllic settings.
