The Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) is accepting applications for a full-time assistant editor. This position reports to the managing editor. Duties include copyediting the journal Economic Geology and other SEG publications.
SEG is seeking an intermediate-level copyeditor who can apply an excellent knowledge of grammar and punctuation rules to copyediting highly technical text. The material to be edited will have been peer-reviewed for content. This is not a writing position, although occasionally brief announcements and copy for ads may be assigned. We hope to hire a person who is looking for long-term employment in an organization with a small, dedicated staff.
This position is on site in Littleton, Colorado.
--Copyedit scientific text to conform to English rules of spelling, grammar, and usage, focusing on consistency according to house style and geologic reference guidelines.
--Work with authors, shepherding manuscripts through the production process.
--Perform misc. clerical work related to publications, as assigned.
--Bachelor’s degree in English or related field. Background in geology is helpful but not required. Close attention to sentence mechanics and our house style is a priority.
--Minimum of three years’ experience preferred, in a position primarily focused on copyediting using house style.
--Knowledge of Microsoft Word, basic knowledge of Excel, and familiarity with flagging PDF files.
