Description:

I learned how to edit from three of the smartest women I have known: Melinda Stovall, Mary Best and Sarah Lindsay. It was the mid-1980s and I learned editing by hard copy in the days before publishing went digital at Pace Communications in Greensboro, N.C. They included IGA Grocergram, Jaycees Magazine, Piedmont Airlines' inflight, Braniff Airlines' inflight, United Airlines' inflight and the monthly business and management publication for the American Society of Travel Agents, ASTA Agency Management magazine. I also freelanced for Triad Business Journal and the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

For the past 30 years I edited all of the editorial output of public relations agency Stuart Newman Associates, dba NewmanPR, which included work for Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Costa Cruises and the Florida Keys & Key West tourism council. I was editor of the Seatrade Today convention daily newspaper for 25 years, producing a 12- to 16-page tabloid-size, four-color print publication on daily deadline.

I created and maintain the Newman agency's house style manual, which is 42 pages long and contains many entries not covered by the Associated Press Stylebook or Chicago Manual of Style, not to mention lots of bad editing jokes.
