Description:

Hi! I’m a writer and editor who helps academics, businesses, and nonfiction writers improve their writing and promote their work.

I specialize in providing developmental editing and line editing for books in the social sciences as well as book-length collections of essays.

As a former writing professor, I know how to provide helpful, focused feedback at any stage of your writing process. As an editor, I am capable of honing your work while also honoring your voice and vision. And as a writer of essays myself, I am keenly aware of the capabilities and challenges of the form.

Are you looking for developmental edits that identify potential areas of expansion? Or are you in need of incisive line edits that refine your work? Whether you are in the beginning stages of crafting your work or preparing it for publication, I can help.

Recent projects

Developmental editing: Tynen, Sarah. Fear, Hope and Survival in Xinjiang: Uyghur Life in China’s Military Police State. London: IB Tauris, forthcoming. China Studies, Race and Ethnicity, Sexuality and Gender, Islam, Asian Politics.

If you are feeling stressed or anxious, hiring Natalie to do a once-over (or a twice-over!) of your work is definitely worth it. You can rest easy, knowing that a professional is looking at your manuscript with fresh eyes and helping you to be the best writer you can be.

—Sarah Tynen, Ph.D.

Line editing: Weinzweig, Ari. Working Through Hard Times: Life and Leadership Learnings from 2020, Humility: A Humble, Anarchistic Inquiry. Zingerman's Press. Leadership, Business Management, Psychology, Personal Essay Collections.

Natalie is fun to work with and her work style allows for back-and-forth conversation to craft writing you'll feel good about. To anyone considering hiring her: you'll retain your voice as the author, and learn a few things along the way.

— Jenny Tubbs, Zingerman’s Press
