I have an associate’s degree in paralegal studies, specializing in legal writing and research. Since the age of four, I have been a voracious reader and can easily spot grammatical errors. Even though I majored in paralegal studies, I was frequently asked by my peers in other majors to proofread and/or edit their writing assignments. In my previous job as an executive assistant in a litigation consulting firm, I began proofreading professionally purely by accident. I was tasked with simply fixing the formatting of a legal report, but also spotted grammatical errors while reading through the document. The positive feedback I received was the incentive I needed to invest in formal training and set up a freelance proofreading and copyediting business.
