I'm a freelance editorial professional with a long history in magazine and book publishing. As a copy editor and proofreader, I've worked on close to 1,000 novels and nonfiction books for trade publishers while supporting half a dozen consumer magazines, on staff and freelance.
I have also taken on local histories, college publications, indie books, artist statements, monographs, advertising, and publicity for nonprofits, historical societies, institutions, visual and performing artists, and authors. Other roles include substantive editor, line editor, cold reader, manuscript reviewer, and literary consultant. I offer a premium service to niche publications and small publishers, helping them to set up, revise, supplement, or collate a cohesive house style.
While my freelance work comprises many genres, I specialize in fiction, memoirs, and personal essays; long-form articles and general nonfiction; books on fly-fishing and the outdoors; and novels or essays with Latinx characters and Spanish dialogue.
My approach is respectful, with a commitment to preserving a client’s voice, culture, and vernacular while meeting a high editorial standard. I enjoy engaging with new authors and can serve as a guide through the editing process and a knowledgeable resource with regard to copyright, fair use, inclusivity, and writing about race or culture.
