I received an Ed.D from Columbia University, Teachers College, an MFA from the Royal College of Art in the UK, and a BFA from Boston University, I was Professor of Art Education at SUNY New Paltz from 1999-2015. My interests are in disability studies, Outsider and Aboriginal art. I have published numerous articles in Art and Art Education journals such as Studies in Art Education.

A monograph, Art and Disability: The Social and Political Struggles Facing Education was published in 2009 and a compendium, Art Education Beyond the Classroom: Pondering the Outsider and Other Sites of Learning was published in 2012, both with Palgrave Macmillan. Autism in a Decentered World, was published with Routledge in 2016. Forthcoming books are Aboriginal Artists of the Stolen Generation in Western Australia, Bridging Communities Through Socially Engaged Art (co-editor), and Contemporary Art and Culture in Disability Studies (co-editor).
