Get the most out of ACES 2021 Online with these networking tips

April 21, 2021 By Cassie Disharoon ACES News

ACES 2021 Online puts participants in the right place at the right time with industry peers. Here are some helpful tips to make the most of the networking opportunities around the conference.

Utilize the Conference Platform’s Networking Tools

During all of the conference sessions, attendees can connect with fellow conference-goers through Pathable, the platform on which ACES 2021 Online is hosted. Pathable offers a directory of all attendees along with their contact information.

The platform allows for direct messaging and live chats during each session. For those who want to keep the conversation going after a session, Pathable has options for scheduling private meetings with other attendees during the conference.

These options can be used to every attendee’s advantage throughout both days of ACES 2021 Online.

Beyond the conference platform, there are several ways to connect with other conference-goers.

Attend ACES 2021 Online Official Events

One way to meet fellow conference attendees is to go to ACES’ official events outside of the conference sessions.

For example, ACES will be hosting their Eighth Annual Spelling Bee virtually this year, on April 21 from 4-5 p.m. EDT. This fun activity supports a great cause and is a good way to kick-off ACES 2021 Online.

To view the Spelling Bee, a $15 donation to the ACES Education Fund is required, These donations fund scholarships for up-and-coming editing students.

This is an opportunity to watch this year’s accomplished celebrity spellers face-off in the competition and meet fellow audience members the night before the conference begins.

Sign Up for Unofficial Networking Events

Official ACES networking events are not the only way to get engaged and connected with other conference attendees. Research other opportunities hosted by industry professionals to network outside of the conference.

For example, Right Touch Editing and That Word Chat (by Mark Allen) are sponsoring their annual Freelancers Happy Hour virtually this year from 5:30-7 p.m. on April 22. While this event is not sponsored or organized by ACES, it will be a fun opportunity to network with freelance editors over Zoom.

Several door prizes are also available for attendees of the Happy Hour.

Get Connected on Social Media

While participating in the conference, join fellow attendees in using #ACES2021Online to share thoughts, questions, or memorable moments from the conference on social media.

Following this hashtag on Twitter and LinkedIn instantly creates a list of people who are engaged and interested in ACES 2021 Online, right at every attendee’s fingertips.

From there, reach out to industry peers through social media to talk more about ACES 2021 Online happenings and create connections that last.

By combining these tips, savvy professionals can leverage ACES 2021 Online as a meaningful and successful networking event.
