ACES is participating in #GivingTuesday on May 5

May 5, 2020 By ACES Staff ACES News

GivingTuesday, the global generosity movement, has organized another day of giving and unity: #GivingTuesdayNow, set for May 5 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

We at ACES understand that many of our members and readers may either be directly affected or know someone who has been affected by COVID-19. Because of that, we are compiling a list of resources for you and places you may consider giving to on this #GivingTuesday.

ACES Education Fund Scholarships

Since 1999, the ACES Education Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and its predecessor have awarded more than 100 scholarships to deserving college students who have a passion for editing. Past winners have gone on to careers in journalism, book publishing, academia, and governmental and corporate editing.

Please consider supporting students as they face new challenges by donating to the ACES Education Fund Scholarship program.

Society for Professional Journalists Day of Giving Back

With COVID-19 exacerbating an already volatile time for the news industry, many journalists are finding themselves furloughed, laid off and left to wonder how they will make ends meet and what will be left of their careers. This is at a time when the news they provide not only informs our lives but saves lives as well.

With your help, the SPJ Foundation intends to aid these individuals through the creation of the Journalists Emergency Fund, which will provide assistance of up to $500 to help with bills and other living expenses.

Investigative Reporters & Editors

The fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to more layoffs within the journalism industry. During these difficult times, IRE has started the Support a Journalist program to ensure that members continue to have access to the IRE network and its resources.

Donations will be accepted to help fund memberships for professional and academic journalists who have been laid off or furloughed or whose positions have been terminated within the last year.

Find Your Local Food Bank

The Feeding America nationwide network of food banks secures and distributes 4.3 billion meals each year through food pantries and meal programs across the United States, and it leads the nation to engage in the fight against hunger.

Goggles for Docs

Goggles for Docs is an effort to get used or new goggles into the hands of healthcare workers who currently have no eye protection as they treat COVID-19 patients.
