Editing with understanding and empathy: A discussion with Mark Allen

March 24, 2017 By Devin Rodriguez, ONA USFSP Conferences

“When you want to be a copy editor or a writer, you need to read. You need to be understanding [and] empathetic to good writing ― what makes good writing, what makes clear writing.”

—Mark Allen, @EditorMark

When he left the Columbus Dispatch eight years ago and launched his freelance career, Mark Allen signed up for his first ACES conference. He hasn't missed an event since, and, this year, he's coordinating the conference in St. Petersburg, Florida.

In this conversation with Devin Rodriguez, Allen talks about his journey with ACES and what it takes to be a great copy editor.
