Ashley Winchester said she tries to limit her use of exclamation points. After all, she is an AP Style devotee.
But she also has a sense of humor.
And that’s how an interrobang helped her win the ACES National Punctuation Day eecard competition. Her prize: complimentary registration for the ACES national conference in Pittsburgh March 26 to March 28.
Winchester, an ACES member since 2007, is the production editor for five weekly Hearst-owned newspapers in Connecticut — the Fairfield Citizen, Westport News, Darien News, New Canaan News and New Milford Spectrum.
Her entry was inspired by a discussion among her editor friends of interrobangs in honor of National Punctuation Day, which she celebrated by bringing in a cake for her desk.
Told she’d won the competition, she said, “OMG I won?! Yay! Wait, way too much.”
