Election results: Changes on the ACES board and Executive Committee

April 26, 2018 By ACES Staff ACES News

While ACES will have a new president and vice president once the national conference in Chicago ends, three ACES Board of Directors members were re-elected to their seats in this year's ACES election, and the ACES board will have one new member.

Merrill Perlman (left), Laura M. Browning (middle) and Alysha Love (right) were re-elected to three of the four open at-large board seats. Perlman, who served as ACES Education Fund president for eight years, has been involved with the organization since its founding. She has served on the Education Fund board since its beginning and has been on ACES' board since 2010. Browning and Love will be starting their second terms on the ACES board.

Taking the fourth open seat, Christine Ma will join the board for her first term.

The terms of the new ACES board members, including the new president and vice president, begin when the national conference in Chicago adjourns Saturday.

Sara Ziegler will leave her position as treasurer to become president. As per the ACES bylaws, the new ACES board will appoint a treasurer to complete her term.

Likewise, Samantha Enslen will be vacating her at-large board seat to become vice president. The new ACES board will decide whether to appoint a person to the at-large board seat. If the board appoints a current at-large board member to serve as treasurer, the new ACES board also must decide whether to appoint a person to fill that vacated at-large seat.

David Sullivan chose not to seek re-election as vice president and did not run for another board seat. He has been on ACES' Board of Directors since 2005 and was ACES' secretary from 2010 until 2014, when he became vice president. Before he was secretary, Sullivan served as the editor of the ACES newsletter.

Gerri Berendzen and Sue Burzynski Bullard chose not to seek re-election for their board seats. Berendzen joined the ACES board in 2006 and has worked extensively on either the ACES newsletter or ACES' website in one way or another during her tenure. Bullard joined the ACES board in 2010 and helped expand ACES’ training, including leading its partnership with the Poynter Institute.

Teresa Schmedding automatically becomes an at-large board member for one term as immediate past president.

Congratulations are in order for all those joining, staying, or leaving the ACES board or Board of Directors. Their impressive work has us either excited to see what new heights they will take ACES to as we continue to grow, or thankful for the work they’ve done to help shape ACES into what it is today. And in some cases, both!
